Structured Query Language (SQL)

In Arabic: لغة الاستعلام البنيوية

Building apps

A standard language for working with relational databases: adding, reading, updating and deleting data.

SQL stands for Structured Query Language, the language used to talk to relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL. With a short statement you can ask, for example, for all orders from Riyadh this month sorted by value. It is one of the oldest and most widely used programming languages.

Even if you build your app with AI, knowing SQL basics helps you read reports, understand your data and verify what the app is doing. Most analytics and business intelligence tools are built on it as well. Practical tip: you can ask AI to write an SQL query for a practical question about your data, but run it first on a test copy or with read-only access. Never build queries by pasting user input directly into them; that opens an SQL injection vulnerability.

ExampleA simple query listing the 10 best-selling products during Ramadan helps a store owner plan next year's inventory.
