Buy now, pay later (BNPL)

In Arabic: اشترِ الآن وادفع لاحقًا

Payments

A payment option that lets customers split a purchase into installments, while the merchant is paid by the provider.

BNPL stands for buy now, pay later. At checkout the customer picks a service such as Tabby or Tamara, pays part or nothing upfront and splits the rest into installments under the provider's terms. The merchant receives the order value from the provider minus a fee, and the provider usually handles collecting the installments.

These services have spread noticeably in the Gulf, especially in fashion, electronics and furniture. They can help raise basket size and checkout completion because the amount feels lighter to the customer. But merchant fees differ from cards, and the provider decides who is approved. Practical tip: show the installment option early, such as on the product page, not only at the final step. Compare fees and return policies across providers, and make sure your system handles refunds and cancellations with them correctly.

ExampleA customer buying a phone picks Tamara at checkout, splits the amount into several payments, and the order ships immediately like any paid order.
